You can read about the continuing pedigree that is Susato throughout these pages. The Susato Low D has for many years been a loyal, hardy, tuneable and most serviceable instrument.

It must come as a welcome relief to many customers however, who may have shorter arms or small hands who have previously not been able to play lower pitched whistles - to know their exclusion from low whistling is now ended. It is for these whistlers who have difficulty reaching the lowest tone holes on longer instruments that this revolutionary design has been created. When a key is positioned over a tone hole it reduces the stretch and the hand position immediately becomes more relaxed. This is particularly so with a second key over the lowest tone hole.

On this model the key is over hole 3 & 6 – both crucial positions.

So, this is it at last – a Low D Whistle that will give access to the wonderful sounds available – by the creation of added keys on in this case the Low D, thanks to those cleaver people at Susato.

Hi Phil

I said I would report on the Susato Low D with keys that I bought from you.

I have been very pleased with it after the initial problems with the change from tenor recorder.

Sound is very nice and mellow, my wife really likes it and infact lots of people have commented.

I have found the keys perfect for me, and even when my right hand is having problems (cold or damp) I can still just reach everything.

For me, basically because of my ability at the moment, it is perfect for slow airs and tunes which require a lot of feeling; speed is not good at the moment, but will come. But then I am not fast on the fiddle either!
