Freeman Tweaked Generation Brass Bb
Description

This whistle is a breakthrough for pennywhistle enthusiasts.

It has been tweaked with the intention of keeping it true to the Generation sound.

Generation have long been the standard whistles for Irish and other
traditional whistle music makers. However, in the early 1980’s, the mouthpiece design changed, and it became much more difficult to find a “good” Generation whistle. Many serious whistle musicians are still playing pre-1980’s Generations. Today, it’s not uncommon for a whistler to try out many whistles, often over a period of years, looking for that one good “keeper” of the original Generation sound.

Jerry Freeman developed this whistle over a full year, working through prototypes and taking feedback from whistle instructors and serious players in the U.S., Canada, and Ireland, whilst also studying pre-1980’s Generations.

It has been “tweaked” (the traditional term for fine tuning a
whistle) to create a sound - as close as possible to an ideal Generation pennywhistle. It has that coveted Generation sound, with it’s beloved “chiff,” but it plays well and easily. This is a remarkable transformation compared to the factory run Generation whistles, many of these instruments are put aside as too temperamental to bother with by seasoned musicians.

The Generation tendency to buzz and squawk has been cleaned up, allowing the characteristic brightness and sweetness of the Generation sound to be fully expressed. The bottom two notes have become respectably strong and comfortable to play without too easily overblowing into the second register.

The upper and lower registers are respectably matched, both in loudness
and timbre. The high notes are sweeter, without the shrill characteristic of a pre-tweaked Generation.

The end result is a very pleasing sound right up to the top of the upper register and an easy to play whistle.
